Walls & Ceilings:
Prep is the key to make all your walls look beautiful! Once you have taken out all your screws and nails, fill the holes with DAP DryDex Spackling. It goes on pink and dries white so you know when you can sand and then apply Rust-Oleum Spray Primer for those spot patches.

Most people think taping your baseboards is a waste of time or for those who don't know how to paint straight lines. This my friend, is a load of rubbish! Yes, people do tape some areas to get straight lines, but the main reason we tape the baseboards is to ensure they do not get paint splatter on it from the roller when you get to painting the wall. To help with this, we use Blue FrogTape. This has PaintBlock Technology in it so paint does not get through. (Be sure to wet the tape with a rag to activate the Paint Block!) This has a medium adhesive and comes off very well without leaving marks or tacking any finish off the baseboards.

Once the prep is finished, holes filled, marker pen Primed and tape on the baseboards, you can get to the painting. We like to use PPG products. There are a lot of great products out there like Ben Moore, but we have always preferred PPG. So when we get to painting the walls, we use a range of products below:
PPG Manor Hall (Flat / Eggshell / Satin Finish) - High Quality Paint
PPG WonderTones (Flat / Eggshell / Satin Finish) - Medium Quality Paint
PPG Speedhide (Flat / Eggshell / Satin Finish) - Low Quality Paint

All of the paint products above are very good products, but it depends on your budget needs and how frequent the room is used.

When it comes to using the right paint brush, we use the Wooster Chinex FTP 2.5" Angled Paint Brush. This may not be the most expensive or the cheapest, but it does give a great smooth finish on most surfaces. The angled bristles help get into those hard to reach corners.

Now onto the Paint Roller. We typically use the 14" Wooster 50/50 Roller Cover and the 14" Wooster Sherlock Roller Frame with the Wooster Sherlock GT Convertible Extension Pole. It comes in different sizes, 1-2', 2-4', 4-8' & 10-20' pole.

Cabinets:
Let's start with the prep. Failure in this area will result in a bad final result. So, to begin, after we have taken any cabinet door off, we will degrease and sand the doors and boxes. If any holes need to be filled in from where you replace a door handle, we use either Bondo Wood Filler or Bondo Original. This dries and hardens very well and does not shrink.

For covering items and protecting them, we use 3M Hand Masker Advanced Masking Film with the 3M Hand Masker M3000. This works very wells with the Blue FrogTape we mentioned above. For our main tape for cabinets, we use Blue Dolphin Washi Tape. It is exceptional adhesion, peels off easy, but does exactly what it should do. Razor sharp lines and stops paint from bleeding through.

For Priming the boxes and doors, we use Zinsser Cover Stain. It is an oil-based Primer which covers any stain or tannin very well and bonds to most surfaces.

For the Finish Paint, we use Ben Moore Coronado Door, Trim & Cabinet Enamel. It comes in Satin or Semi-Gloss Finish. It has Low VOC (<50), easy to clean up with water and soap, and the finish this product leaves is very good.

Staining:
When it comes to staining, we typically sand the product to raw wood and start from scratch. We like to do that because we can then get the finish and color you want. After sanding, then we will vacuum the product to remove all the dust and wipe it over with a damp rag to make sure all the dust has gone. If the product needs conditioning we will apply this first, then we will apply our stain, Old Masters Fast Dry Stain, with a rag or foam brush.
Once the stain has dried, we like to allow at least 24 hours for this to happen, we will then apply a clear coat over the top. Depending on whether this is Interior or Exterior and if it gets a lot of sun we use different products.

For Interior use, we use either Gemini Evo Clear Topcoat or Old Masters Armor Water-Based Clear Finish.
For Exterior use, we use either Old Masters Oil-Based Spar Marine Varnish or Old Masters Water-Based Ascend Exterior.

Each product has different uses so reach out for advice and any helpful hints.
